Frequently Asked Questions

If by now, you have been following and reading all the materials in the Corporate Turnaround Centre website and yet you have not decided to purchase any of the books available for sale, then I suspect there are a few issues troubling you:

1.  What's an eBook and how can I access it?

An eBook ("e" standing for "electronic") is a book in digital, electronic format rather than printed on paper and bound in the "traditional" manner. EBooks can be read on your computer or on your PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) or handheld computer, depending on their format. You can print ebook out in hard copies if you are not comfortable reading from the computer screen. In most cases, the software you use to read the eBook can be downloaded for free. In fact, you may already have it on your computer. EBook formats include Adobe Reader (also known as Adobe Acrobat Reader), Microsoft Reader, and Palm Reader.

  1. Is it safe to give my credit card number and information over the internet?

Globally, many people buy things online and give their credit card numbers. Today, this mode of purchase is becoming more and more popular. My company uses a secure order server with SSL encryption, the highest security available (Boon Leong, any confirmation??). Your credit card numbers will be safe through this system. Also, your information remains confidential and will not be shared with anyone.

  1. You do not find the information relevant to your present work as my company is doing fine.

You are the fortunate few, running a healthy company. So you think that your business does not require help.  Many companies got into trouble because of this false comfort that all is well.  The marketplace dynamics are changing very rapidly and no companies are spared from hitting a crisis.  It is prudent to prevent a disaster from happening to your organization. This is why early diagnosis is very important as mentioned in my ebooks. You do not have to get sick to get better.  Learn the use of preventative medicine for your organization. Also, you should consider how to further strengthen and enhance your company’s current competitive situation. I assure you that you will learn many tips from my books on how to do so.

  1. I am too junior to make critical decisions on turnaround and transformation. I do not have anybody reporting to me.

Everybody in the organization needs to transform in this very competitive era.  As mentioned, it is better to be a creator of change, than creature of change. It does not matter that you do not have anybody reporting into you.  You need to work with your colleagues, suppliers, customers etc.  As long you have to work with other people, you need to understand the challenges that are confronting your business associates and partners. For whatever changes on them will subsequently have an impact on you.

  1. I find that the theories are fairly straightforward and a lot of common sense.

Yes, it is true that turnaround and transformation go back to basic principles.  However, sometimes common sense is not too common. If it is, there will not be so many business failures today.  Also, I have put the materials into simple, easy to understand and remember fashion so that they can facilitate application.  Be mindful that in a turnaround environment, often times, the manager is put into a difficult position and he has little time to think clearly or refer to business books for guidance. Making the right timely decision and executing the decision are what matter.  The medical analogy with simple principles will help the manager remember and know how to identify the right decisions to apply. These are time-tested principles used by many successful companies globally.

  1. The circumstances in my industry are unique and specialized.  The principles may not work for my industry.

The principles of turnaround and transformation are universally re-formulated for application in all industries.  I have highlighted the many companies and industries that have used these principles successfully.  In medical science, there are biological and physical principles that affect people of all races and background. For instance if your diet is bad, you will fall sick. Similarly in companies, there are basic principles to good health irrespective of the background of the industry. For instance, if you have incompetent management, your company will lose its competitive position.

  1. I do not have time to read and learn. How can you help me assimilate the knowledge quickly?

This is a common problem faced by many busy executives.  I have written the books in a simple and layman manner.  This is to precisely help these executives understand what may well be very complex theories in turnaround and transformation. It also helps to facilitate easy reading.  If you still find it difficult to find the time to assimilate the information, then I suggest for you to watch the video with the Powerpoint presentation.  All you need is to spare 110 minutes of your time and you will understand most of the basic principles involved in a turnaround and transformation environment.

  1. My business is not in Asia, how are the principles applicable to me?

The principles expounded are applicable for any businesses irrespective of geographical locations.  Many cases are cited in the book of the non-Asian corporate experiences. You may also be able to apply some of the gems of wisdom from the East, especially in the area of holistic corporate recovery.

  1. My company is going into bankruptcy.  How can your principles help?

Bankruptcy should always be the last option.  In my books, I help the readers identify whether we should put a stake through the heart of the “living dead”, if this is the current situation of your company. My books also deal with how to perform surgery on a dying company and do whatever means at our disposal to bring the patient out of intensive care unit.

  1. I just need to expand my businesses in high-growth Asia. Will your books help?

Sure, in my first book, I highlighted some of the factors to consider when you conduct your business in various countries in Asia.  The business environment may have changed since then.  My  books will help you to avoid the many mistakes of doing business in Asia.
